Shopping in Madrid
I always enjoy visiting the high fashion districts of the major cities to see what the latest trends will be for the season. Walk down upscale Paseo del Prado – the fashion district called Salamenca to find all your major designer stores. Cartier was so inviting with their character building dripping with baskets of red flowers, and inside you will find their signature red velvet window displays covered in Cartier Jewels and luxury accessories.
If Spain is known for anything, they have some of the best quality leather in the world. You sometimes can find a leather manufacturer that will sell high quality tote bags, belts and shoes that rival the haute couture designers. The Spanish business men are always dressed in suits and finish their look with a great pair of leather shoes.
Carmina shoemaker is worth a mention for shoes and boots. For men, they have hand-stitched horsebit loafers with calf lining and timeless high quality Chelsea boots. I saw a spectacular pair in walnut alligator, and they even have vegan shoes for the environmentally conscious.
In the heart of Salamenca make a quick visit to La Giralda Bar and experience traditional Andulusian cuisine surrounded by artistic porcelain décor. Depending on what you’re in the mood for, the restaurant has two distinct areas – the main restaurant, the patio or the lively Bar and tapas area.
Some of the famous Spanish designers are Aldofo Doninquez and Agatha de la Prada.
Agatha lights up the streets with her bold colours and fun styles. Her children’s line is so adorable and she unapologetically keeps the industry on their toes with her unique designs. Her style can be compared to Bestsy Johnson meets Kate Spade, but Agatha has her own edgy colorful twist which I love! She is bold and carefully curates her colors and designs, and guarantees to make heads turn, if you dare to wear one of her pieces.
Madrids buzzing Gran Via avenue is full of life and endless shops. It’s Madrids entertainment district where the locals walk arm in arm stepping out to the theater after dark, and later in the evening the night clubs are pulsing with Madrids top beats of the month.
These go to all hours, but I’m already resting in my heavenly bed, getting ready for the next day.
